Zoë Kravitz is an American actress, producer and director known for her work across independent films, blockbuster franchises and prestige television. The daughter of musician Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet, she has built a varied career that ranges from supporting roles in major action films to leading parts and, more recently, work behind the camera.

Early life

Zoë Isabella Kravitz was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1988. She spent part of her childhood in Miami with her mother before moving back to Los Angeles as a teenager. She attended Rudolf Steiner School in New York and later studied briefly at the State University of New York at Purchase before leaving to pursue acting. Growing up within a family deeply connected to music and film shaped her early interest in performance.

Career

Kravitz made her film debut in "No Reservations" (2007) and took early roles in independent films such as "The Brave One" and "Assassination of a High School President." She gained wider notice with roles in "X-Men: First Class" (2011), in which she played the mutant Angel Salvadore, and the "Divergent" film series, in which she played Christina. She appeared in "Mad Max: Fury Road" (2015) as one of the wives fleeing the warlord Immortan Joe, a film that became a critical and commercial success. She also voiced characters in animated films and took independent roles that showcased her range.

On television, she earned acclaim for her portrayal of Bonnie Carlson in the HBO drama series "Big Little Lies" (2017-2019), part of an ensemble cast of award-winning actresses. She then led the Hulu series "High Fidelity" (2020), a gender-flipped adaptation of the novel and film, which she also helped produce.

Recent work

Kravitz played Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman, opposite Robert Pattinson in "The Batman" (2022), one of her highest-profile roles. In 2024 she made her feature directorial debut with the psychological thriller "Blink Twice," which she co-wrote and directed, marking a significant expansion of her creative work into filmmaking; the film drew attention for its tense premise and its commentary on power and consent. Beyond acting and directing, Kravitz fronts the band Lolawolf, lending another dimension to her artistic output. She has also been a recognizable figure in fashion, serving as a brand ambassador and appearing in advertising campaigns for major luxury houses, and has been recognized as one of the more stylistically distinctive performers of her generation while continuing to take on acting projects.
