Amy Lou Adams was born in 1974 in Vicenza, Italy, where her American father was stationed with the United States military. The family later moved and eventually settled in Colorado. Adams trained as a dancer in her youth and began performing in dinner theatre and regional productions, developing her stage experience before moving toward screen acting.
Career
Adams made her film debut in the comedy "Drop Dead Gorgeous" (1999) and took various television and supporting film roles in the following years. Her breakthrough came with the independent drama "Junebug" (2005), for which she received her first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She reached a wider audience as Giselle in the Disney musical comedy "Enchanted" (2007), a role that showcased her singing and comic timing.
She went on to a string of acclaimed dramatic performances, earning Academy Award nominations for "Doubt" (2008), "The Fighter" (2010), "The Master" (2012), "American Hustle" (2013) and "Vice" (2018), in which she played Lynne Cheney. Recent work
Adams played a linguist making contact with extraterrestrial visitors in the science-fiction film "Arrival" (2016), one of her most praised performances.
