Quavo, born Quavious Keyate Marshall, is an American rapper, singer and songwriter best known as a founding member of the hip-hop group Migos. Alongside his bandmates Offset and Takeoff, he helped popularise the triplet-flow style that became a defining sound of Atlanta trap music in the 2010s. Quavo has also pursued a prolific solo and collaborative career, releasing chart-topping singles and albums while becoming a recognisable figure in popular culture.

Early life

Quavo was raised in the Atlanta metropolitan area of Georgia. He grew up in a close-knit family environment that included his nephew Takeoff and cousin Offset, with whom he would later form Migos. As a teenager he attended Berkmar High School, where he played quarterback on the football team before turning his focus to music. The three relatives began recording together in the early 2010s, building a local following through mixtapes and online releases.

Career

Migos broke through with the 2013 single "Versace," which gained wider attention after a remix by Drake. The group consolidated its success with the 2016 single "Bad and Boujee," featuring Lil Uzi Vert, which reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. Their albums, including "Culture" and its sequels, were commercial and critical successes that influenced a generation of rap artists. Within the trio, Quavo was often the most visible member, frequently handling melodic hooks.

Quavo expanded into solo work and high-profile collaborations. He teamed with Travis Scott for the joint project "Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho" and appeared on numerous hit singles by other artists, lending his voice to tracks across hip-hop and pop. His debut solo studio album, "Quavo Huncho," was released in 2018 and featured an array of guest performers. He also ventured into acting and brand partnerships, and developed a public association with basketball through celebrity games and appearances.

Recent work

Following the death of his nephew and bandmate Takeoff in 2022, Quavo released music reflecting on loss and remembrance, including the 2023 project "Rocket Power," which paid tribute to Takeoff. He continued to record collaborations and singles while taking part in community-focused initiatives addressing gun violence, an issue he has spoken about publicly in interviews and appearances. Quavo remains an active presence in contemporary hip-hop, balancing solo releases with featured guest verses and cultural ventures. He launched a foundation in Takeoff's memory aimed at supporting young people and reducing violence in their hometown, and has carried that advocacy into public forums and policy discussions in Washington. Quavo is widely credited as one of the artists who helped define the dominant sound of Atlanta rap during the 2010s, and he continues to record, perform and pursue ventures in fashion, sports culture and entertainment alongside his music.
