Enrique Iglesias is a Spanish singer, songwriter and record producer who became one of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time. Recording in both Spanish and English, he built a career spanning Latin pop, dance and pop ballads, with a long string of chart hits across multiple decades. He is the son of singer Julio Iglesias, but established his own commercial success independently after launching his career in the mid-1990s.

Early life

Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler was born on May 8, 1975, in Madrid, Spain. He spent part of his childhood in Spain before relocating to the United States, where he grew up largely in the Miami area. Pursuing music against the backdrop of his father's fame, he initially recorded under a pseudonym to avoid trading on the family name while seeking a record deal, and signed with a Latin label early in his career.

Career

Iglesias released his self-titled debut album in 1995, which found strong success in the Spanish-language market and earned him early recognition. He followed with further Spanish-language albums before crossing over into the English-language market at the end of the 1990s. The song "Bailamos" became a major international hit in 1999, helping to launch his English-language career, and his crossover album included additional successes.

Across the 2000s he produced a series of widely played singles, including "Hero" and the album Escape, with songs such as the title track becoming staples of pop radio. He continued to alternate between English and Spanish recordings, frequently collaborating with other Latin and pop artists, and toured internationally to large audiences throughout the decade. The breadth of his bilingual output helped him reach markets in Europe, the Americas and beyond, and he became a consistent presence on both Latin and mainstream charts.

In the 2010s he returned to greater emphasis on Spanish-language material. The single "Bailando" became one of his biggest hits, reflecting renewed commercial momentum, and tracks such as "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)" and "I Like It" kept him present on international charts. His ability to move fluidly between dance-oriented singles and emotive ballads sustained his appeal across changing musical trends.

Recent work

Iglesias has continued to tour and record, releasing later projects that he has described as career-spanning, and remains one of the most commercially successful artists in Latin pop. He has accumulated numerous awards over his career, including recognition as a leading Latin recording artist, and has sold tens of millions of records worldwide. He has long been in a relationship with former professional tennis player Anna Kournikova, with whom he has children, and has generally kept his personal life private, rarely discussing his family in interviews. His enduring appeal rests on a catalogue of bilingual hits that have made him a central figure in the global popularity of Latin pop music, and he is frequently cited among the genre's most influential and best-selling performers.
