Finneas O'Connell, known professionally as FINNEAS, is an American musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. He is best known as the primary songwriting and production collaborator of his sister, the singer Billie Eilish, with whom he has won numerous awards. He also maintains a solo recording career and has worked as a producer and songwriter for other artists.
Early life
Finneas Baird O'Connell was born on July 30, 1997, in Los Angeles, California, into a family involved in the arts. He was homeschooled and grew up writing songs and learning multiple instruments. Working from a bedroom studio in the family home, he began producing music for himself and for his younger sister, Billie Eilish, an arrangement that would become the foundation of both their careers.
Career
Finneas co-wrote and produced Eilish's breakthrough material, including the single "Ocean Eyes," and went on to produce and co-write her debut studio album and subsequent records. The collaboration earned widespread acclaim and a large number of major awards, including multiple Grammy Awards; Finneas was recognized with honors including Producer of the Year. His production style, often built around minimal, intimate arrangements, became influential in contemporary pop.
Alongside his work with Eilish, the duo wrote film songs that achieved significant recognition. They co-wrote the title song for the James Bond film No Time to Die, which won an Academy Award, and "What Was I Made For?" from the film Barbie, which also won an Academy Award, making the siblings two-time Oscar winners. Finneas has additionally produced and written for other artists across pop and beyond, establishing himself as a sought-after collaborator beyond his family partnership and earning a reputation as one of the most prominent producers of his generation.
Recent work
As a solo artist under the name FINNEAS, he released the EP Blood Harmony (2019) and the studio album Optimist (2021), followed by further solo releases that showcased his own songwriting and singing apart from his production work. He released a further solo album in the 2020s and has continued to record and tour as a solo performer while remaining Eilish's central creative partner, producing her subsequent albums and touring with her. Earlier in his life he also appeared as an actor in television, including a recurring role on the musical series Glee, before fully committing to music.
