Known for: Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Super Bowl LIX champion and MVP

Jalen Hurts is an American football quarterback in the National Football League (NFL). Known for his dual-threat ability as both a passer and a runner, he became the franchise quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles and led the team to multiple Super Bowl appearances.

Early life

Jalen Alexander Hurts was born on August 7, 1998, in Houston, Texas. His father was a high school football coach, and Hurts grew up immersed in the sport, starring as a quarterback at the high school level in the Houston area. He was recruited to play college football at the University of Alabama.

Career

At Alabama, Hurts started as a freshman and helped lead the Crimson Tide to the national championship game. After losing his starting role, he famously came off the bench to help win a national title game before transferring to the University of Oklahoma for his final college season, where he was a Heisman Trophy finalist. He was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft.

Hurts took over as the Eagles' starting quarterback during his second season and steadily improved as a passer while remaining a major running threat near the goal line. He developed into one of the league's most productive young quarterbacks, earning Pro Bowl recognition and leading Philadelphia's offense to elite production. His combination of accuracy, mobility and toughness, along with his reputation for diligent preparation, helped transform the Eagles into one of the strongest teams in the National Football Conference and made him one of the most closely watched players at his position.

Recent work

Hurts guided the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII, a narrow loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in which he delivered a record-setting individual performance, including multiple rushing touchdowns. Two seasons later he returned to the championship stage at Super Bowl LIX, leading the Eagles to a decisive victory over the Chiefs and being named the game's Most Valuable Player, cementing his standing among the league's elite quarterbacks. He is widely recognised for his leadership, composure under pressure and the Eagles' signature short-yardage "tush push" running play, which became one of the most discussed tactics in the sport. He has also been noted for signing one of the most lucrative contracts in NFL history. Beyond the field, Hurts has been active in community and youth-focused initiatives, particularly around education and access to technology, and is regarded as one of the prominent faces of the modern NFL.
