Kaká
Former footballer
Kaká, whose full name is Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite, is a Brazilian former professional footballer regarded as one of the finest attacking midfielders of his era. Known for his pace, dribbling, vision, passing and goal-scoring from midfield, he won major honours at club and international level and received the sport's leading individual award at the height of his career. He was admired for his ability to drive forward from deep positions and combine creativity with directness in the final third.
Early life
Kaká was born on 22 April 1982 in Brazil. He came through the youth ranks of São Paulo, one of Brazil's leading clubs, where he made his professional debut and quickly emerged as a highly promising attacking talent. His early performances in Brazilian football established him as a prospect destined for a move to Europe.
Career
Kaká transferred to AC Milan in the early 2000s, where he became a central figure in one of European football's most successful teams of the period, playing alongside a roster of established international stars. With Milan he won Serie A and reached the pinnacle of European club football, winning the UEFA Champions League in 2007 after a strong individual run through the competition. That same year he was named the world's best player, receiving the Ballon d'Or as well as the FIFA World Player of the Year award, capping a season widely seen as the peak of his career and confirming his status among the leading attacking players in the world.
In 2009 he joined Real Madrid in a high-profile transfer, where he won domestic honours including La Liga, though his time in Spain was affected by injuries. He later returned to AC Milan before moving to Major League Soccer in the United States.
Recent work
Kaká finished his playing career with Orlando City in Major League Soccer, where he served as a marquee signing and captain before retiring from professional football in 2017. At international level he was a member of the Brazil squad that won the 2002 FIFA World Cup and went on to win the FIFA Confederations Cup with the national team, representing Brazil across multiple major tournaments. His 2007 Ballon d'Or made him the last player before the prolonged era of dominance by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to win the award. Since retiring as a player, he has remained a recognisable ambassador for the sport, frequently appearing in football-related events and promotional roles.
