Sienna Miller
Actress
Sienna Miller is a British and American actress known for her work across film, television, and theatre, as well as for her prominence in fashion during the 2000s. Over a career spanning more than two decades she has moved from tabloid-covered celebrity to a respected character actress, taking on supporting and leading roles in both major studio films and independent productions.
Early life
Sienna Rose Diana Miller was born in New York City in 1981 to an American father and a South African-born mother, and was raised largely in England. She attended boarding school and later trained in acting in New York. She began her career as a model and in small screen roles before transitioning into film.
Career
Miller gained early attention in the early 2000s, appearing in the television series Keen Eddie and in the 2004 remake of Alfie alongside Jude Law. Her breakout dramatic role came with Factory Girl (2006), in which she played Edie Sedgwick, the model and muse associated with Andy Warhol. During this period she also became a fixture of British style coverage, influencing fashion trends, though she has spoken about the intense and often intrusive media attention she faced.
She broadened her range across the following years with roles in films including Stardust (2007), The Edge of Love (2008), and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009). She also pursued theatre work, appearing on Broadway and in the West End, including a production of After Miss Julie.
Miller earned wider critical recognition in the mid-2010s with supporting performances in two acclaimed films released around the same time: Foxcatcher (2014) and American Sniper (2014), the latter directed by Clint Eastwood, in which she played the wife of Chris Kyle. She continued with roles in Burnt (2015), The Lost City of Z (2016), and Live by Night (2016).
Recent work
In recent years Miller has taken on a mix of film and prestige television. She starred in the Netflix limited series Anatomy of a Scandal (2022) and appeared in films such as American Woman (2018) and Wander Darkly (2020). She joined the cast of the superhero film Madame Web in 2024 and has continued to appear in dramatic film and series work, broadening her profile with international audiences. Alongside acting, Miller has remained a public advocate on issues of press intrusion, having been a notable claimant in litigation concerning phone hacking by British tabloids. She is widely regarded for the naturalism she brings to her roles and for sustaining a long, varied career across mediums.
