Rose
Singer & member of Blackpink
Rose, known professionally as Rose (stylized Rose) and born Roseanne Park, is a singer and a member of the South Korean girl group Blackpink. One of the most prominent figures in K-pop, she rose to international fame as part of the group before launching a successful solo career, and she is recognized for her distinctive vocal tone and her crossover appeal in Western pop markets.
Early life
She was born on February 11, 1997, in Auckland, New Zealand, and was raised in Melbourne, Australia, in a Korean family. She grew up singing and learning music, and as a teenager she auditioned for the South Korean entertainment company YG Entertainment. After being selected, she relocated to South Korea to train as a recording artist, spending several years in the company's trainee system before debuting.
Career
Rose debuted as a member of Blackpink in 2016, alongside Jisoo, Jennie, and Lisa. The group became one of the most successful acts to emerge from the K-pop industry, achieving global popularity with singles such as those drawn from their EPs and their studio albums, headlining major tours, and performing at internationally prominent festivals and events. Within the group, Rose is featured prominently as a vocalist.
Blackpink's rise coincided with a broader surge of global interest in K-pop, and the group became known for record-setting music videos, sold-out international tours, and high-profile festival appearances. As a vocalist, Rose contributed to many of the group's best-known songs and became one of its most visible members internationally, in part through her presence in fashion and her appeal to English-speaking audiences.
In 2021 she released her first solo project, led by the single 'On the Ground,' which performed strongly on charts and demonstrated her appeal as a solo artist. The release made her one of the first members of the group to launch an individual music career, and it set the stage for her later solo work. She has also worked extensively in fashion, serving as a global ambassador for major luxury brands and appearing at high-profile industry events, which broadened her recognition beyond music.
Recent work
In 2024 Rose signed with a U.S. label for her solo work and released new music that significantly expanded her international profile. Her single 'APT.,' a collaboration with Bruno Mars, became a major worldwide hit, charting highly in numerous countries and becoming one of the most widely streamed songs of its release period. It served as the lead single from her solo album 'Rosie,' which was released later that year and marked her first full-length solo record. The success of this material established her as one of the most commercially successful solo artists to come out of K-pop, while she has continued to be associated with Blackpink's ongoing activities.
