Robin Roberts

Robin Roberts is an American television broadcaster best known as a long-running anchor of ABC's morning program "Good Morning America." She began her career in sports broadcasting before becoming one of the most prominent and trusted figures in American daytime news television.

Early life

Roberts was born on November 23, 1960, in Tuskegee, Alabama, and grew up in Pass Christian, Mississippi. Her father, Lawrence Roberts, served in the military as one of the Tuskegee Airmen, the celebrated group of African American military aviators. A standout athlete from a young age, she played basketball and tennis and attended Southeastern Louisiana University, where she competed in basketball, finishing among the program's career scoring and rebounding leaders, and graduated with a degree in communications. Her athletic background directly shaped her early professional path in sports media.

Career

Roberts began working as a sports anchor and reporter at local television and radio stations in the South, including stations in Mississippi, Georgia, and Tennessee, before joining ESPN in 1990. At ESPN she became a well-known anchor on "SportsCenter" and contributed to a range of other sports programming over more than a decade, earning a national profile as one of the network's leading on-air personalities.
