Derek Jeter

Derek Jeter is an American former professional baseball player who spent his entire Major League Baseball career as the shortstop for the New York Yankees. Long-serving team captain and a central figure in the Yankees' success around the turn of the millennium, he is regarded as one of the most accomplished and respected players of his generation.

Early life

Jeter was born on June 26, 1974, in Pequannock Township, New Jersey, and grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was a highly regarded high school player and committed early to baseball, drawing the attention of professional scouts. The Yankees selected him in the first round of the 1992 MLB Draft, and he progressed through the team's minor league system before reaching the majors.
