Halle Berry

Halle Berry is an American actress and producer whose career spans television, blockbuster franchises, and acclaimed dramas. She made history as the first Black woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress, recognized for her performance in the 2001 film Monster's Ball, and she has remained a prominent figure in Hollywood for more than three decades.

Early life

Halle Maria Berry was born on August 14, 1966, in Cleveland, Ohio. Raised primarily by her mother, she excelled in extracurricular activities during her school years and entered beauty pageants as a young woman, finishing as a runner-up in the Miss USA competition and representing the United States internationally. She worked as a model before turning to acting, moving toward television and film roles in the early 1990s.

Career

Berry's early screen work included a role in the television series Living Dolls and a part in Spike Lee's Jungle Fever. She broke through in film with roles in Boomerang and the family film The Flintstones, and she earned critical praise for portraying Dorothy Dandridge in the television movie Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, for which she won an Emmy Award. Her dramatic performance in Monster's Ball brought her the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2002, a landmark moment in the history of the awards.
