Canelo Alvarez

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is a Mexican professional boxer widely regarded as one of the leading fighters of his generation and one of the biggest draws in the modern sport. Early life

Alvarez was born on July 18, 1990, in Guadalajara, in the Mexican state of Jalisco, and grew up in nearby Juanacatlan. He came from a large family with several boxing brothers, and he turned professional as a teenager, beginning his career in Mexico while still very young. His red hair earned him the nickname "Canelo", the Spanish word for cinnamon, which has remained his ring name throughout his career.

Career

Alvarez built his early record almost entirely in Mexico before breaking through to wider attention. He won his first major world title at light middleweight (junior middleweight) in 2011, becoming a champion at a young age.
