Early life
Megan Pete was born in 1995 in San Antonio, Texas, and was largely raised in the Houston area. Her mother rapped under the name Holly-Wood, and Megan was exposed to music and the local rap scene from a young age. She began writing and performing as a teenager and gained early attention through freestyle videos shared online, building a following while also pursuing her education. She has spoken about continuing her studies, later earning a university degree.
Career
Megan released mixtapes and EPs in the late 2010s that drew growing attention, including the project "Tina Snow," and she signed with a major label as her profile rose. The phrase "Hot Girl Summer," popularized through her music and persona, entered wider culture and became associated with her brand. Her single "Hot Girl Summer," featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla Sign, broadened her mainstream reach.
Her breakthrough to the top of the charts came with "Savage," which gained enormous popularity, boosted by a remix featuring Beyoncé and by widespread use on social media. In 2020 she also featured on "WAP" with Cardi B, a major commercial success.
