Jin, born Kim Seok-jin, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and the oldest member of the globally successful pop group BTS. As a vocalist in one of the most commercially dominant acts of the 2010s and 2020s, he has been part of a group that helped bring Korean popular music to a worldwide mainstream audience, while also building a distinct solo identity.

Early life

Kim Seok-jin was born on December 4, 1992, in South Korea. He pursued higher education in the field of acting and film before entering the music industry. According to widely reported accounts, he was scouted on the street and subsequently joined the agency then known as Big Hit Entertainment as a trainee, where he prepared for several years before debuting as part of a new idol group.

Career

Jin debuted in 2013 as a member of BTS, a seven-member group that initially gained attention in South Korea before achieving extraordinary international success later in the decade. Within the group he is one of the vocalists and is often noted for his comedic personality and on-stage presence. BTS went on to top charts around the world, perform at major venues and awards shows, and earn recognition as one of the best-selling musical acts of their era. Jin contributed to the group's recordings and live performances throughout this period and released several solo songs associated with the group's output.

Among his early solo-credited works are songs that became fan favorites, and in 2022 he released the single 'The Astronaut,' a collaboration that marked one of his most prominent individual releases. His lighthearted track 'Super Tuna' also gained viral popularity. These releases established him as a solo artist within the broader BTS framework.

Recent work

Like the other members of BTS, Jin fulfilled South Korea's mandatory military service, completing his enlistment before returning to active music work. Following his return, he resumed solo activities, including new music and live appearances. He has released solo material that showcases a range of pop and ballad styles, and he has undertaken solo promotional and performance activities apart from group schedules.

As BTS members have pursued individual projects, Jin has continued to build his catalogue as a soloist while remaining identified with the group that brought him to prominence. His work reflects the broader trajectory of contemporary Korean pop, in which artists balance group commitments, individual releases, and an international fan base that follows their output across streaming platforms and social media. Through both his BTS membership and his solo releases, he remains a widely recognized figure in global pop music.
