Early life
Christopher Michael Pratt was born on June 21, 1979, in Virginia, Minnesota, and grew up largely in Lake Stevens, Washington. He has spoken about an unsettled period in his early adulthood, during which he worked odd jobs and lived in Hawaii before being discovered and encouraged to pursue acting. This led to his first roles in television.
Career
Pratt gained early experience on television series before landing the role that brought him wide recognition: Andy Dwyer on the NBC comedy Parks and Recreation, which ran from 2009 to 2015. His performance as the good-natured, often clueless character earned him a strong following and demonstrated his comedic range.
He made a significant leap to film stardom when he was cast as Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). The film was a major success and showcased his ability to blend humor with action-hero appeal; he reprised the role in its sequels and in the Avengers ensemble films. Movie (2023), a hugely successful animated feature based on the video game franchise, and starred in the action series The Terminal List and other film and streaming projects. He has remained one of the more prominent leading actors in studio filmmaking, balancing franchise commitments with new ventures across film and streaming television. His ability to anchor multiple successful franchises simultaneously, spanning the Marvel and Jurassic series along with animated features, has made him one of the more bankable stars of his generation.
