Reality TV personality Spencer Pratt jumped on X to call out the timing and tone of Kelly's remarks, writing that criticizing grieving parents in the immediate wake of losing a child is — unless there's something truly egregious involved — generally considered bad form. He summed it up with one sharp word: "Goblinesque."

New York City councilwoman Inna Vernikov drew a direct line between this moment and Kelly's past behavior, referencing how the host had previously taken aim at another family dealing with loss. "She did the same thing to Hayden's family. She has no soul," Vernikov wrote on X. Kelly had previously faced criticism for her commentary around Hayden Panettiere's death, which her family and supporters pushed back on strongly — and Panettiere's mother Lesley Vogel specifically addressed the criticism leveled by Kelly and others.
