Kim Kardashian Opens Up About Pumping the Brakes on North's Stardom

Kim Kardashian says 13-year-old North West is hungry for the spotlight — and mom has to carefully manage which opportunities she takes on.

Kim Kardashian has never shied away from the cameras, but when it comes to her eldest daughter, she's learning the art of saying not yet. The SKIMS founder opened up about navigating North West's burgeoning career with both enthusiasm and caution — and it turns out, the 13-year-old might just have more star power than even her famous mom expected.
North Wants It All — and Kim Is Being Strategic
In a candid new interview published by the Sunday Times, according to Page Six, Kardashian admitted that North is simply built different when it comes to the spotlight. While her younger kids — Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 7 — are happy to drift in and out of filming without taking on formal storylines, North is actively chasing opportunities.
"All she wants to do is forward-facing projects," Kim shared, explaining that the challenge isn't encouraging her daughter — it's managing the flood of offers coming her way. The goal, she said, is to be selective so that each milestone actually means something, rather than burning bright too fast.
It's a delicate balance that Kim clearly takes seriously. "I do worry," she admitted, referencing the very real pressures that come with growing up under her level of public scrutiny.
A Mom Who's Strict — But Make It Loving
Kardashian described her parenting style as "intermediate-strict," which honestly sounds about right for someone raising four kids in one of the most famous households on the planet. She's patient, she reads books with her children every night, and yes — she still lets a little one crawl into her bed when they need comfort.
It's a warmer, more grounded image than the glossy persona we sometimes see on screen, and it's a reminder that behind all the headline-making moments, Kim is very much in mom mode.
North's Star Is Already Rising
And yet, for all the careful guardrails, North's résumé is already looking impressive. She dropped her debut EP, N0rth4evr, in May and landed the cover of Dazed magazine's September issue — two major milestones for any artist, let alone a teenager.
Last month, she performed her first solo concert at the Vic Theatre in Chicago to a sold-out crowd. Both Kim and her ex-husband Kanye West showed up to support their daughter, though the former couple kept to separate sections of the venue. Kim later took to her Instagram Stories to share footage of the packed audience eagerly waiting for North to take the stage — proud mom energy fully activated.
The concert was a significant moment, especially after North had to cancel a planned 14-stop tour with rapper Molly Santana back in July, just days before it was set to kick off.
North Speaks for Herself
In her Dazed interview, North made it clear she's not interested in waiting for permission to pursue her passion. When asked about the worst advice she'd ever received, she pointed straight to anyone who told her to pump the brakes on music. "It's like, nah, this is my hobby, this is what I like to do, this is what I wanna do with my life," she said with characteristic confidence.
She also addressed critics of her bold aesthetic — think faux piercings and statement hair — with a perspective that's pretty hard to argue with. "Everyone's in love with boys, vaping and doing all kinds of bad stuff," she noted. "All I want is blue hair and piercings."
It's a line that captures exactly who North West is shaping up to be: self-assured, creative, and unafraid. And with a mom like Kim — who has certainly navigated her own share of public scrutiny, from personal security scares to legal victories — North has a pretty seasoned guide by her side.
One thing's for sure: the world is going to be hearing a lot more from North West, and something tells us Kim wouldn't have it any other way.
