Haaland Nets Two More as Norway Stun Brazil to Reach World Cup QFs

Erling Haaland delivered again when it mattered most, scoring twice to dump Brazil out and fire Norway into their first-ever World Cup quarter-final.

Seven goals in four games. Norway's first-ever World Cup quarter-final. Erling Haaland is running out of stages to conquer — and he keeps conquering them anyway. According to BBC Sport, the Manchester City striker bagged a brace in a historic 2-1 win over Brazil in the round of 16.
Two Touches, Two Goals, No Problem
Haaland was anything but dominant on the ball. Thirty total touches. Four inside the penalty area. An xG of just 0.39. None of that mattered when the moments arrived.
He broke the deadlock 79 minutes in, winning and converting a header against Arsenal centre-back Gabriel — a rivalry imported straight from the Premier League. Eleven minutes later, with Brazil pushing for an equaliser, he dropped a low drive from outside the box that left the keeper with zero chance.
"There was not a chance there," former Scotland winger Pat Nevin said on BBC Radio 5 Live. "Not a half chance, quarter chance. Nothing."
Former England striker Ian Wright kept it equally simple on ITV: "He didn't have to have a lot of touches."
The Numbers That Define a Monster
Haaland now sits level with Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi at the top of the Golden Boot standings with seven goals at this tournament. His international numbers are equally staggering — 62 goals in 54 senior caps, one every 71 minutes on average, with only six coming from the penalty spot.
He has now scored in 14 consecutive competitive appearances for Norway, racking up 27 goals in that run. The last competitive game he failed to score? October 2024, a Nations League defeat to Austria.
After Haaland helped Norway past Senegal in the group stage and then sat out a heavy loss to France when Solbakken rotated, the rest clearly recharged him. The striker looks sharper than ever at the business end of the competition.
Norway's Viking Revolution
This is only Norway's fourth World Cup appearance and their first since 1998. Before Tuesday's win over Ivory Coast in the last 32, they had never won a single knockout tie at the tournament. Now they've won back-to-back knockout matches, with the second coming against five-time world champions Brazil.
The scenes at full-time said everything. Haaland led the Viking Row with supporters — that synchronised rowing celebration that has become the soundtrack to Norway's run — banging a drum and roaring into the night.
"This is just an insane day," Haaland said afterwards. "One of the most insane days in Norwegian history."
Former England defender Gary Neville, speaking on ITV, pointed to what this tournament is doing for Haaland's legacy: "Sometimes it's said 'he's never done it on the world stage,' and that's now been removed."
England Up Next
Norway's quarter-final reward is a clash with England, who edged past Mexico 3-2 in an eventful last-16 tie. For the Three Lions, the Haaland problem is very real.
"He has given the whole country belief that they can go really far in this competition," former England captain Wayne Rooney said on BBC One.
Haaland's own mindset? Typically matter-of-fact. "If I have a chance or two, then very often I score," he said. "I'm not quite sure, but this is what I do."
With three wins separating Norway from an almost unthinkable world title, and the most clinical striker on the planet leading the charge, England — and everyone else left standing — have every reason to be afraid.
