Early life

Crews was born in Flint, Michigan. He earned an athletic scholarship and attended Western Michigan University, where he played college football and also studied art. His combination of athletic and artistic interests would later inform his varied career. He was drafted into the National Football League and played as a defensive end and linebacker for several teams during the early to mid 1990s.

Career

After retiring from professional football, Crews pursued acting and other work to support his family, taking on a range of jobs before establishing himself in entertainment. He gained attention through roles in films such as Friday After Next and the action comedy White Chicks, and he became widely known for a series of high-energy television commercials.

Crews built a strong television presence with a recurring role on the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris and later starred as Sergeant Terry Jeffords on the acclaimed police comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which ran for several seasons and became one of his best-known roles.
