Career

He first became widely known in Britain through 'Da Ali G Show,' in which he portrayed Ali G, a faux-streetwise interviewer who conducted interviews with real public figures. The show, and its later version produced for an American audience, introduced additional characters, most notably Borat, a fictional Kazakh television journalist. In 2006 Baron Cohen starred in the film 'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan,' a commercial success that earned him an Academy Award nomination for its screenplay and a Golden Globe for his performance. He followed with the film 'Bruno,' built around another of his characters.
