Michael Strahan is an American television personality and former professional football player. A Hall of Fame defensive end who spent his entire NFL career with the New York Giants, he transitioned after retirement into a prominent broadcasting career, becoming a familiar presence on morning television and football coverage.

Early life

Michael Anthony Strahan was born on November 21, 1971, in Houston, Texas. He spent part of his childhood in Germany, where his father was stationed with the U.S. Army, and returned to Texas for his senior year of high school. He attended Texas Southern University, where he developed into a standout defensive lineman, setting school records and drawing the attention of NFL scouts despite playing at a smaller program.

Career

The New York Giants selected Strahan in the second round of the 1993 NFL Draft, and he played his entire 15-season career with the franchise. A dominant pass rusher known for his strength, technique, and durability, he became one of the most feared defensive ends of his era and a leader of the Giants' defense. In 2001 he set the NFL single-season record for sacks with 22.5, a mark that stood for two decades. Strahan was selected to multiple Pro Bowls and earned first-team All-Pro honors several times, and in 2001 he was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. His career culminated in a Super Bowl victory with the Giants over the previously undefeated New England Patriots in early 2008, after which he retired. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014.

Recent work

Following his playing career, Strahan moved into broadcasting, joining Fox's NFL studio coverage as an analyst, a role he has continued for many years. He became widely known to daytime audiences as co-host of the talk show Live! with Kelly and Michael alongside Kelly Ripa, before joining ABC's Good Morning America as a co-anchor. He has also hosted the game show The $100,000 Pyramid and other programs, and has built business ventures including a men's clothing and grooming line and other branded products. In 2021 he took part in a brief suborbital spaceflight as a guest passenger aboard a commercial rocket, drawing wide media attention. Admired for his easygoing on-air charisma and his rare success across both professional sports and broadcast entertainment, Strahan remains one of the most recognizable former athletes in American media.
