Early life

Eva Jacqueline Longoria was born on March 15, 1975, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She grew up on a ranch in the area and was the youngest of several sisters. She earned a degree in kinesiology before moving toward an entertainment career, relocating to Los Angeles to pursue acting after taking part in a talent competition.

Career

Longoria began on television, with early work including a role on the long-running soap opera The Young and the Restless. Her career rose substantially when she was cast as Gabrielle Solis in Desperate Housewives, the comedy-drama that premiered in 2004 and became a major hit. The series ran for eight seasons through 2012, making Longoria one of its central stars and earning her wide recognition along with nominations for industry awards.

During and after Desperate Housewives, Longoria appeared in films and continued to take on television roles, but she increasingly invested in work behind the camera. She produced television series and documentaries and built a reputation as a businesswoman and advocate, lending her name and resources to a range of projects. Her interest in storytelling about Latino communities became a recurring theme in the work she chose to develop and produce.

Beyond acting, Longoria moved into producing, developing television and film projects and building a presence as a director. She directed episodes of television and made her feature directorial debut with Flamin' Hot (2023), a biographical drama about the marketing of a snack food, which marked a significant step in her career behind the camera and was widely covered as part of her transition to directing.

Recent work

In recent years Longoria has focused on directing, producing and travel and food documentary programming, hosting series that explore cuisine and culture in regions including Mexico and Spain. She has remained active in philanthropy through the Eva Longoria Foundation, which supports education and entrepreneurship for Latinas, and she has been engaged in civic and political advocacy, including high-profile participation in political events. Her career reflects a transition from a celebrated television actress into a multi-hyphenate figure working across production, direction and activism, while her role as Gabrielle Solis on Desperate Housewives remains the work for which she is most widely known.
