DJ Snake is a French DJ and record producer who became one of the most commercially successful electronic music artists of the 2010s. Known for blending hip-hop, trap, and various global music influences with mainstream pop, he has produced and collaborated on a string of internationally popular singles.

Early life

DJ Snake was born William Sami Etienne Grigahcine on June 13, 1986, in Paris, France. Of Algerian descent, he grew up in the Paris area and became involved in the city's club and dance music scene as a young man. He worked as a DJ and producer for years before achieving mainstream success, developing his craft within France's electronic music culture.

Career

DJ Snake's breakthrough came with "Turn Down for What" (2013), a collaboration with rapper Lil Jon that became a global hit and was accompanied by a widely shared music video. He followed this with further crossover successes, most notably as a producer on Major Lazer's "Lean On" (2015), featuring the Danish singer MO, which became one of the most streamed songs of its time and a defining track of the era's dance-pop crossover.

He continued to score hits with "Middle," featuring Bipolar Sunshine, and "Let Me Love You" (2016), a collaboration with Justin Bieber that achieved widespread chart success around the world. His debut studio album, "Encore" (2016), brought together many of these collaborations and reflected his approach of working across genres and with a wide range of vocalists, from pop singers to hip-hop and electronic artists. The album confirmed his standing as both a hitmaker and a producer able to move fluidly between underground club sounds and mainstream radio.

Recent work

DJ Snake's later releases include "Taki Taki" (2018), a multilingual collaboration featuring Selena Gomez, Ozuna, and Cardi B that became a major international hit, demonstrating his interest in bridging Latin, pop, and dance audiences. He has continued to release singles and collaborate with artists across the global pop and electronic landscape, and he has performed at major festivals and venues around the world, including large-scale shows in France. He has also drawn on his Algerian and North African heritage in some of his music and visuals. DJ Snake remains a prominent figure in contemporary electronic and pop music, known for his ear for cross-cultural collaborations and chart-oriented production.
