Known for: Havana, Senorita, Fifth Harmony, Camila, Romance

Camila Cabello is a Cuban-American singer and songwriter who first rose to fame as a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony before launching a successful solo career in pop and Latin-influenced music.

Early life

Camila Cabello was born Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao on March 3, 1997, in Havana, Cuba. She spent parts of her childhood in Cuba and Mexico before her family emigrated to the United States, settling in the Miami area. Her bilingual, Latin-American background later became an important element of her artistic identity and music.

Career

Cabello came to prominence through the televised singing competition "The X Factor" in the United States, where she was placed into the group Fifth Harmony. The group became one of the more commercially successful pop acts of the 2010s, releasing hit singles and touring internationally. Cabello departed the group in the late 2010s to pursue a solo career.

As a solo artist she achieved major success with the single "Havana," a Latin-tinged pop song that became a worldwide hit and a defining track of her early solo period. Her debut solo album, "Camila," was released in 2018 and topped charts in several countries. She also recorded the widely popular duet "Senorita" with Shawn Mendes. Subsequent albums, including "Romance" and "Familia," continued to blend mainstream pop with Latin musical influences.

In addition to music, Cabello has worked in film, taking the title role in a 2021 musical adaptation of "Cinderella," and has appeared as a coach or mentor on televised singing competitions, returning to the format that launched her career. She has also been involved in songwriting for her own material and has spoken about the personal experiences that shaped her albums, including relationships, identity and mental health.

Recent work

Cabello has continued to release new music and to explore different pop and dance-oriented directions on later projects, while remaining a prominent presence at award shows, festivals and high-profile live events. She is recognized as one of the more visible Latina artists in mainstream English-language pop, frequently incorporating her Cuban heritage and Spanish-language elements into her work and collaborating with a range of international artists. She has received numerous award nominations over the course of her solo career and has maintained a substantial global following across streaming and social media. Her trajectory from competition-show contestant and group member to global solo star is often noted as part of the broader rise of artists discovered through televised talent formats, and she remains an active and visible figure in contemporary pop music.
