Blake Lively-Baldoni Drama Sparks New Lawsuit Against Daily Mail

The legal fallout surrounding Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni shows no signs of slowing down — and now a veteran showbiz journalist has filed his own lawsuit, claiming the chaos cost him his career. Reporter James Vituscka is suing his former employer, the Daily Mail, alleging wrongful termination and a host of other serious workplace violations stemming from his unexpected involvement in the celebrity legal saga.

How a Reporter Got Caught in the Crossfire

Vituscka was working as a senior US entertainment reporter when he found himself unwillingly entangled in one of Hollywood's messiest disputes. According to court documents obtained by Page Six, he had conversations with both Lively's longtime publicist, Leslie Sloane, and Baldoni's PR crisis manager, Melissa Nathan, while covering the drama surrounding the film It Ends With Us.

Sloane allegedly told Vituscka back in August 2024 that Baldoni had been a source of tension on set — but never mentioned anything about sexual harassment or assault. Months later, after Lively formally filed a sexual harassment complaint against Baldoni in December 2024, Vituscka texted Nathan to flag what he saw as a discrepancy. In that message, he accidentally wrote "sexually assaulted" instead of "sexually harassed" — a slip he says he immediately clarified. Unfortunately for him, those texts ended up quoted in Baldoni's legal filings, pulling Vituscka squarely into the spotlight.

He maintains his words were taken out of context and stripped of the clarifications he'd made, and he was later subpoenaed for documents and testimony. This is just one thread in an already tangled legal web — Wayfarer Studios was also ordered to pay the New York Times in a related defamation case connected to the broader dispute.

Allegations Against the Daily Mail

Once that subpoena landed, Vituscka says things got rocky with his employer fast. He alleges that when he sought to hire his own attorney to protect himself, the Daily Mail actively discouraged him from doing so. Instead, the outlet allegedly pressured him to sign a declaration containing language he wasn't comfortable with — specifically, wording that implied he "regretted" the actions that led to his involvement in the case.

He also claims that the paper began altering the way his work was supervised, and that he was ultimately terminated in June 2025. His Manhattan Supreme Court complaint, filed Monday, includes allegations of whistleblower retaliation, sexual harassment, sex and disability discrimination, interference with protected rights, and wrongful termination. He is seeking lost wages, emotional-distress damages, and punitive damages.

The Daily Mail is pushing back firmly. In a statement, the outlet called Vituscka's account "inaccurate" and insisted that the declaration he signed aligned with what he had already told senior management. "As a trusted news organization, we expect our journalists to act with honesty and integrity," the Mail said, adding that his claims of retaliation, harassment, and discrimination are "entirely meritless."

A Journalist Speaks Out

Vituscka isn't staying quiet. In his own statement, the reporter said he spent two decades building his reputation on ethical journalism and never expected that standing by his principles could unravel everything he'd worked for. "This lawsuit is about accountability and standing up for the basic principle that journalists should never be punished for protecting their integrity," he said.

His attorney echoed that sentiment, vowing to hold the Daily Mail responsible for how their client was treated.

The case adds yet another layer to an already staggering legal battle. Justin Baldoni has also challenged Blake Lively's $8 million legal bill request in related proceedings, underscoring just how expensive and far-reaching this dispute has become for everyone caught in its orbit.

Leslie Sloane did not respond to requests for comment, while Melissa Nathan declined to offer one. With the complaint still awaiting review by the County Clerk at the time of filing, this story is very much still unfolding.
